The Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People continually seek to improve access for the communities we serve, and to maintain the vibrant Centre we call home.

One of the ways we do this is by securing grants and arranging fundraising activities.

The Centre, which provides essential services to the Deaf and Blind communities in Leeds, is at risk of closing unless we raise £100,000 urgently. People use this place for education, access to information, booking interpreters for British Sign Language (BSL) and most importantly of all, the wellbeing of our community with social events for all ages and all ability. For many in the Deaf BSL community, the Centre is more than just a place; it’s a second home where they feel welcomed, understood, and connected, which is essential for their overall well-being and mental health. Please help us save this invaluable resource now.

Nine out of ten of the board members have a hearing or sight loss. The community would be devastated by the loss of this central hub which they treasure and care for. Please give generously to this wonderful cause!

The Centre offers vital services to the Deaf and Blind communities of Leeds. If we do not do something now, it is at risk of closing. We have many volunteers who come to support The Centre, helping with all of the following roles:

  • ·     Café workers,
  • ·     Creative crafts workers,
  • ·     Gardeners,
  • ·     Bar workers,
  • ·     Cleaners,
  • ·     Youth workers,
  • ·     Office support,
  • ·     Events organisers

  • Help us to save our Centre and share widely!

A great big thank you to Adeel Ashmed and all students in his group at Leeds City College for the time and effort they put into raising funds for our centre and to raise an amazing £148.45.

The significance of their donation extends beyond the present; it is an investment in our dreams of tomorrow.

Once again, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. We truly appreciate your support and hope that you will continue to be a part of our future.

Matthew Sides (Talent & Engagement Lead) at BWLegal from Enterprise House in Leeds presented a cheque of £893.30 to our society. Donna Burrows, Maryam Afrang, Tracey Adams and Freddie Donna’s Hearing Dog who are volunteers at our society received the cheque. BWLegal’s generosity means everything to us and to the Deaf and Blind communities we serve.

We know they have a lot of choices when it comes to donating, and we are so grateful that they chose to donate to our society. Our staff and volunteers continue to have a lot of work to do, and their generous donation helps us get that important work done. None of our success would be possible without generous donors like BWLegal. Thank you again for your commitment and kindness.
